A Ninian dragon superpower
The Trials of Fate are the tests which the Riders of Pheusia and their dragons become Dragon Rider. It is a series of three tests which are incredibly difficult. The first test is called The Ring of Fire where the dragon has to jump through rings torched with fire and the Rider has block plasma bolts with his/her plasma saber to protect his/her dragon. The second test is called Chose of Fate where the Rider has to choose which to save, his/her family or his dragon (he/she has to save them both). The third and final one is called The Battle where the dragon and his/her's Rider have to battle and defeat a holographic army that actually can hurt them with plasma bolts. If they succeed they will be taught they way of the Riders, but if they fail they simply are paired with another Rider by choice.
